Message for U.S. Citizens: Rome (Italy), Demonstrations

The Italian State Police informed the Embassy that on Friday October 21st and Saturday October 22nd there will be two demonstrations in Rome. The events, titled "No Renzi Day" are in opposition to the Constitutional reform referendum to be held on December 4, 2016.

The demonstration on Friday, October 21st will begin at 16:00 and take place at Piazza San Giovanni. The police expect approximately 4,000 demonstrators for both events.

The demonstration on Saturday, October 22nd will begin at 14:00, and the demonstrators are expected to march along a predetermined route. The demonstrators will gather at Piazza San Giovanni and move toward Campo Dei Fiori utilizing the following route: Piazza San Giovanni, via Merulana, via Labicana, via Celio Vibenna, via di San Gregorio, Porta Capena, via dei Cerchi, Bocca della VeritA�, via Petroselli, via del Teatro Marcello, via dell'Ara Coeli, Largo Argentina, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, via dei Baullari, Campo dei Fiori. The two demonstrations were organized and are supported by several extreme leftist groups.

The police will closely monitor both events and have advised that there may be significant traffic delays in the vicinity of the demonstrations.

The U.S. Embassy in Rome recommends that U.S. citizens and their families avoid the areas of the demonstration and exercise caution if walking or driving in the vicinity.
