Emergency Message for U.S. Citizens: Paris (France), Knife Attack in Paris on February 3

The U.S. Embassy in France informs U.S. citizens that media reports indicate an unidentified individual attacked a military patrol with a knife and was subsequently shot at the Louvre Museum in the 1st arrondissement in Paris today.

U.S. citizens are advised to avoid the area around the Louvre and heed instructions of local authorities. There may be ongoing law enforcement operations, some of which may result in temporary restrictions placed on movement of individuals, interruption of public transportation, and traffic disruptions.

U.S. citizens are encouraged to monitor media and local information sources and factor updated information into personal travel plans and activities. Specific safety concerns should be addressed to French law enforcement authorities who have responsibility for the safety and security of all visitors to France.
