Zondoma’s 6-Hectare Grove Dedicated to Traditional Practitioners


Zondoma: The 7th edition of National Tree Day (JNA) in the Northern Region was officially launched in Gourcy by the Governor of the region, Thomas Yampa. More than 1,000 medicinal plants were planted for the benefit of traditional practitioners in the region.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the village of Bouli in the commune of Gourcy hosted the official launch ceremony of the 7th edition of the National Tree Day JNA, initiated by the highest authorities of the country. The event, with the theme “Medicinal plants: source of resilience and climate of communities,” was chaired by Governor Thomas Yampa.



In his message, the Governor congratulated the Zondoma forces for their mobilization and urged them to implement the Head of State’s call to plant and maintain trees to support the country’s development. “There is no human or animal life that does not benefit from some service from trees,” the Governor stated, highlighting the importance of planting trees.



According to Hassane Sawadogo, the sponsor of the activity, His Majesty Naaba Baongo, Chief of Gourcy, took the initiative to fence off the reforestation site and equip it with a borehole equipped with a water tower to facilitate the maintenance of the grove.



A total of 1,100 plants, mostly medicinal species, were planted in a section of the 6-hectare grove. Additionally, 1,000 plants were distributed to participants for planting at sites of their choice. The Association of Traditional Practitioners, represented by its Regional Secretary General Aly Guiro, will be responsible for the maintenance of the plants, essential for their activities. The ceremony was attended by the Emir of D©dougou, alongside other traditional leaders.



At the national level, the official launch of JNA 2025 took place on June 21, 2025, by the Head of State Ibrahim Traor© in Manga.
