Bujumbura: Mr. Babacar Sedikh Faye has been appointed as the World Bank Group (WBG) Country Manager for Burundi, effective July 1, 2025. His appointment is part of a global initiative by the World Bank Group aimed at unifying and strengthening its representation at the country level. Mr. Faye will be responsible for the operations of all the institutions in Burundi, including the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
According to African Press Organization, Mr. Faye expressed his honor in representing the World Bank Group in Burundi and emphasized the importance of continuing to strengthen the partnership with the country. The World Bank Group's interventions have witnessed growth and impact in recent years, and Mr. Faye aims to maintain this trajectory through more efficient and innovative approaches to support Burundi's efforts in improving living conditions and reducing inequalities.
Mr. Faye's appointment coincides with the preparation of the Country Partnership Framework (CPF) with Burundi for the next six years. This strategic framework is designed to align the WBG's interventions with Burundi's development priorities. Mr. Faye highlighted that the CPF provides an opportunity for better integration of the WBG's institutions to support the government in achieving its Vision Burundi plan, aspiring to become an emerging country by 2040 and a developed country by 2060. The World Bank Group is committed to providing sustained support to foster a dynamic private sector that promotes inclusive and sustainable growth.
