WFP Pledges Continued Support for Burkina Faso’s Food Sovereignty

New york: The Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the World Food Programme (WFP), Carl Skau, has announced that the organization will maintain its support for Burkina Faso’s pursuit of food sovereignty. This commitment comes despite a reduction in WFP’s budgetary resources.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Carl Skau met with Prime Minister Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo and emphasized that the WFP plans to “mobilize more resources” and align its efforts with the priorities of the Burkinabe government. Skau stated that the organization is dedicated to assisting populations facing difficulties, including security and humanitarian issues, to help them achieve food self-sufficiency.

The WFP official highlighted that international crises, such as those in Ukraine and Gaza, are straining funding resources. However, the organization remains committed to working with Burkina Faso to “find lasting solutions to humanitarian and food challenges.”
