The Government of Nicaragua stated that they expect to resolve the incident in the next few days, and that the fire has been contained, though they stand ready to evacuate local residents if necessary. They also reported that they have sent medical and environmental teams to the site.
While there are no official estimates at this time regarding the effects of this incident, the U.S. Embassy recommends that U.S. citizens in Nicaragua monitor the local news and contact the Embassy for assistance if directly affected by the events in the Puerto Sandino area.
