Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Tallinn (Estonia), Planned Demonstration Against NATO on September 10

The U.S. Embassy in Tallinn informs U.S. citizens of a planned demonstration scheduled for Saturday, September 10, 2016, from 11:30 to 14:00 in the Old Town Area. The stated purpose is to protest the NATO presence in Europe. Embassy personnel have been advised to avoid the area during the demonstration and remain cognizant that the security situation can change rapidly in these scenarios.

Even demonstrations or gatherings intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.

Other events:

A large number of people are expected to participate in the SEB Tallinn Marathon running events taking place around the city, which coincides with the time of the planned demonstration. Please monitor race routes and timings if you plan to travel in, around, and between Old Town and Pirita.
