Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Suva (Fiji), Downtown Criminal Activity

Embassy Suva wishes to advise U.S. citizens residing in or travelling to Suva that according to Fijian Police, there are reports of criminal activity targeting vehicles stopped in downtown Suva traffic during the morning, evening, and lunchtime rush hours. Fijian Police have reported opportunistic criminals reaching inside vehicle windows to steal phones, purses and available valuables lying on the seats. The U.S. Embassy advises U.S. citizens to be aware of their surroundings while waiting in traffic and ensure all vehicle doors are locked. Travelers should roll up vehicle windows when stopped at all questionable intersections or when in the presence of suspicious individuals walking between vehicles.
