Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Rome (Italy), Planned Demonstrations

The Italian State Police informed the U.S. Embassy in Rome that Thursday, February 2, 2017 there will be two demonstrations taking place in the vicinity of the BNL bank on Via Bissolati, 2 (across from the U.S. Embassy compound) in opposition of President Trump's recent executive order on immigration policy.

According to the Italian Police, the first group, consisting of approximately 50 individuals from the Italian Coalition for Liberty and Civil Rights, will demonstrate from 5:00p.m. to 6:30p.m.. The second group, consisting of approximately 25 American and British citizens, will demonstrate from 8:00p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Italian police will monitor the event and do not expect that either demonstration will be violent. The demonstrations may cause traffic delays in the immediate area.

The U.S. Embassy in Rome recommends that U.S. citizens and their families avoid the area of the demonstrations and exercise caution if walking or driving in the vicinity.
