Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Prague (Czech Republic), Soccer Match on August 3

The U.S. Embassy in Prague informs U.S. citizens that a soccer match between SPARTA Praha and CRVENA ZVEZDA Belgrade Serbia will be played on Thursday, August 3, 2017 starting at 7:00 p.m. at Generali Arena, Letna, Prague 7. This event is expected to draw approximately 20,000 spectators.

Rival matches in the past have resulted in disorderly conduct, arrests and injuries to bystanders. Czech authorities are preparing for the possibility of violence and/or disruptive behavior during this match. There will be a significant police presence in the vicinity of the stadium and traffic delays are likely to occur. U.S. citizens should avoid this area while the match is in play. They should also be alert for confrontations between rival groups of fans and rowdy pre- and post-match celebrations.

Even events intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.

Avoid areas with unruly gatherings, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any such events.
