Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Port-au-Prince (Haiti), Ongoing Demonstration in Downtown Port-au-Prince, heading toward Petion-Ville

The U.S. Embassy has received reports of an ongoing demonstration in the downtown, Port-au-Prince area. Demonstrators are gathering in front of the St. Jean Bosco church on Grand Rue. The demonstrators have expressed their intentions to march to the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) in Petion-Ville. All U.S. Citizens are advised to avoid these areas. Please keep in mind that demonstrations in Haiti, even peaceful ones, can escalate quickly and even turn violent, so the Embassy urges all U.S. citizens to remain vigilant, be aware of their surroundings, and avoid this area as much as possible. Should you find yourself among or near protesters, depart the area immediately.
