Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Paris (France), Eurostar Strikes

The U.S. Embassy in Paris informs U.S. citizens in France that U.K. rail workers on Eurostar train lines linking Britain to continental Europe via the Channel Tunnel have announced strikes for a total of seven days in August because of a dispute over working conditions. The strike action is scheduled to take place in two blocks over two weekends, from August 12-15 and from August 27-29, 2016.

Disruptions to Eurostar traffic may result in train cancellations. Travelers should check with Eurostar (available in French and English) prior to arriving at the train station. Travelers may also wish to consult or websites for further information on the status of the strike.

Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
