Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Minsk (Belarus), Planned Demonstrations

The U.S. Embassy informs U.S. citizens that demonstrations, in opposition to Presidential Decree #3, otherwise known as the "social parasite" decree, are expected to take place in several cities in Belarus. Demonstrations are currently planned in Maladechno (March 10 at 18:00 or 6:00 p.m., Central Square), Pinsk (March 11 at noon, Lenin Square) Babruisk (March 12 at noon, Victory Square), Orsha (March 12 at 13:00 or 1:00 p.m., Central Square), and Regachiv (March 12 at 16:00 or 4:00 p.m., city center) with the potential for demonstrations to spread to other cities.

We wish to remind U.S. citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. U.S. citizens are therefore reminded to avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations. The Embassy also wishes to remind U.S. citizens to remain vigilant, maintain an appropriate level of personal security in all circumstances, and monitor local news sources for updates.
