The U.S. Consulate General in Milan informs U.S. citizens of a heightened security presence in Milan leading up to and including the UEFA Champions Final taking place at San Siro stadium in Milan on Saturday evening, May 28. UEFA, the governing body of European soccer, anticipates approximately 70,000-80,000 people in attendance, similar to Super Bowl crowds in the United States.
Festivities leading up to the game will take place in and around the Piazza del Duomo in central Milan beginning on May 26. U.S. citizens should maintain a high level of vigilance, take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security and follow instructions of local authorities. We encourage you to review the U.S. Department of State's Travel Alert for Europe.
Even events intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or festival events.
