Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Lisbon (Portugal), Demonstrations

The U.S. Embassy in Lisbon informs U.S. Citizens in Portugal that two potentially large demonstrations focusing on U.S. politics will occur at the end of this week. On January 20, a vigil will take place at Largo do Carmo at 17:00. On January 21, a demonstration is scheduled to take place in front of the U.S. Embassy in Lisbon at 15:00.

U.S. Citizens are reminded that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. U.S. citizens should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
