Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Kampala (Uganda), Increased Anti-U.S. Rhetoric

The U.S. Embassy informs U.S. citizens of increased anti-U.S. rhetoric on social media in connection with an incident in California on September 27 in which police shot and killed a man who was reportedly from Uganda. Due to the potential for violence or demonstrations that could arise from anti-U.S. sentiment on social media, U.S. citizens are advised to exercise caution in public places frequented by Westerners.

Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.

Review your personal security plans, remain aware of your surroundings, including local events, and monitor local news stations for updates. Be vigilant and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security.
