Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Conakry (Guinea), Planned Political Demonstrations

The U.S. Embassy has received reports that political parties and civil society organizations are planning a series of demonstrations against delays in holding local elections. According to these reports, four separate demonstrations are currently planned as listed below. Please note that these dates and locations are subject to change:

? Kaloum, Conakry, Sunday July 16

? Matoto, Conakry, Saturday July 22

? Ratoma, Conakry, Sunday July 23

? Nationwide, throughout Guinea, Wednesday August 2

Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations. Vehicles attempting to pass through areas where protests occur are frequently targeted by people throwing rocks.
