Security Message for U.S Citizens: Conakry (Guinea), Demonstrations in Nongo Neighborhood

The U.S. Embassy informs U.S. citizens that local security forces are currently not permitting traffic to enter the Nongo neighborhood due to expected gatherings and demonstrations. Additional roads may be blocked without notice. U.S. citizens are advised to use caution when leaving their homes and to turn back or seek alternate routes should they encounter a protest or demonstration, and to pay attention to local news reports for the most current information. U.S. government personnel are being advised to stay in their homes until the situation changes.

Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
