Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Belgrade (Serbia), Possible Protests on March 25

The U.S. Embassy in Belgrade informs U.S. citizens of a possible march in Belgrade on Saturday, March 25, 2017, originating at the Church of Saint Sava and proceeding to Rajko Mitic Stadium prior to the soccer match between Moscow-based Spartak and Red Star Belgrade, which begins at 6:00pm that evening. The march may take on an anti-NATO and anti-U.S. character. People should expect police activities, traffic disruptions and large crowds along the protest route and around the stadium.

Also on Saturday, a far-right nationalist candidate for president will hold a large rally at Republic Square in Belgrade at noon.

Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
