Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Banjul (The Gambia), Travel with Caution

The U.S. Department of State advises U.S. citizens against travel east of Denton Bridge to central Banjul and to rural areas of The Gambia during the ongoing presidential transition period. U.S. citizens are advised to exercise caution when moving in the greater urban area of Banjul.

The U.S. Embassy will resume normal operations Monday morning, January 23. However, family members of embassy employees ordered to leave The Gambia for security reasons will remain away until risks are reduced. U.S. citizens requiring emergency services may call the U.S. Embassy at +(220) 437-5270.

U.S. citizens should:

Avoid large crowds and celebrations as these may turn violent

quickly.

Have extra food, water, and medication on hand.

Establish a communication plan with your friends and family, so they know when to expect to hear from you.
