Presidents of Constitutional Courts Advocate for Thomas Sankara as a Pan-African Icon


Ouagadougou: The presidents of the constitutional courts from the sub-region have made a collective call in Ouagadougou, urging authorities to elevate Thomas Sankara, the father of the Burkinabe Revolution, as a symbol of truth, pan-Africanism, and unity. This call was made during their visit to the Thomas Sankara Memorial (MTS).



According to Burkina Information Agency, the spokesperson for this group, Amadou Ousmane Tour©, who is also the president of the Constitutional Court of Mali, expressed deep admiration for the legacy of Sankara. Tour© emphasized the importance of presenting Sankara as a guiding figure for the current generation, highlighting his vision and enduring influence.



Tour© made these remarks on Wednesday during a visit organized for the constitutional court presidents to the MTS. This visit coincided with an international conference commemorating 25 years of the Constitutional Council of Burkina Faso.



Tour© reflected on Sankara’s journey, noting the lasting impact of his vision. He acknowledged gaining new insights during the visit that would enable him to assess Sankara’s legacy more comprehensively.

The Thomas Sankara Memorial, inaugurated on May 17, 2025, stands as a tribute to Sankara and his 12 companions, located within the Council of the Entente grounds in Ouagadougou.
