Kaya: The capital of the Kuils© region hosted a public conference on Tuesday, July 29, focusing on patriotic commitment, civic spirit, and social cohesion. Organized at the city’s multipurpose hall, the event was part of the Presidential Initiative for Community Development (IPDC) and gathered administrative, religious, military, and paramilitary authorities, along with civil society actors, youth, and students from the region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the conference featured three significant presentations. Denis Dabon©, Director of Civics and Citizenship Education at the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, presented the first theme, “Civicism and Citizenship.” Issa Lagvar©, Regional Project Officer at the Presidency of Faso, addressed “Patriotism and Civic Participation,” while Adama Ou©draogo, Director of Tolerance and Peace Promotion at the Ministry of Human Rights, led the discussion on “Culture of Peace and Social Cohesion.”
The speakers underscored the importance of civic-mindedness, citizenship, and social cohesion as essential elements for lasting peace in Burkina Faso. They also pointed out the challenges associated with youth education and patriotic commitment, emphasizing the role of citizen participation in nation building. A collective call to action was made, especially towards parents, to instill strong values in children for the future of Burkina Faso.
The conference began with Colonel-Major Zoewendman©go Blaise Ou©draogo, Governor of the Kuils© region, leading the opening ceremony, which included the National Anthem sung by all participants. A moment of prayer was observed for those who died defending the national territory. Colonel-Major Ou©draogo also delivered the official speech launching the public conferences on citizenship, patriotic commitment, and social cohesion across Burkina Faso’s 13 regions, on behalf of His Excellency the President of Faso.
Participants expressed satisfaction with the conference discussions, with women, youth, traditional chiefs, and religious and community leaders showing their commitment to promoting civic duty, patriotism, and social cohesion. Students, in particular, voiced their desire for more events on these topics, highlighting the importance of civic education.
The regional governor assured that similar conferences would be organized in the provinces of Bam and Namentenga. He concluded by emphasizing that “civic-mindedness, patriotism, social cohesion, and peace begin in the family,” delivering a powerful message to all citizens, particularly parents. This conference is part of a series of events initiated on July 24, 2025, in Ouagadougou by the President of Faso to promote civic and patriotic values nationwide.
