NBA star Klay Thompson taking part in Douala basketball camp

Four-time NBA Champion, Klay Thompson, is in Douala for the third edition of the Vision Cameroon basketball camp organized by Cameroon-born player enhancement coach for the Boston Celtics, Steve Tchiengang. His invitation of the former Golden State Warriors shooting guard who now plays for the Dallas Mavericks, comes to boost Vision Cameroon's efforts in identifying and motivating young athletes in the country, who are passionate about pursuing their dreams. Vision Cameroon is a nonprofit organization founded by Steve Tchiengang, with the objective of providing kids with an environment where they can realize their potential, exercise, have fun, and learn life skills. Klay is accompanied in his visit to Cameroon by former NBA champion, Festus Ezeli, who has described the passion shown already by young players in the country as 'ultimate'. 'They just enjoy competing with the limited resources they have. It makes you want to give everything you have to see them enjoy the experience fully' Ezeli said. Activi ties before the camping with the kids, have included, a coaching clinic to train the coaches that will run the basketball camp. The group has also taken out time to explore Cameroon's cultural diversity from delicacies to music and lifestyle. The previous edition of the annual basketball camp which took place in August 2023, brought together over 100 young athletes. The number is expected to increase in the 2024 edition. Steve Tchiengang was born in Douala, Cameroon in 1988, and has had a successful basketball career with the Vanderbilt Commodores men's basktball team in the US, then later becoming the player enhancement coach of the Boston Celtics where he won the 2024 NBA title.
