More Than 600 Women Trained to Process Non-Timber Forest Products in Bogande

Bogande: More than 600 women have been equipped with the skills to process Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) and produce NTFP-based cosmetic products after a six-day intensive training course held at the Bogande Agro-Sylvo-Pastoral Products Processing Center. The training concluded on Saturday, September 27, 2025, amidst an audience of guests and beneficiaries.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the training aimed to enhance the capabilities of women from various localities in Gnagna by equipping them with modern NTFP processing techniques. The initiative, spearheaded by the Tienu Hambli Union and supported by the Provincial Directorate of Water and Forests, seeks to economically empower women by organizing them into cooperatives and establishing local value chains.

During the closing ceremony, the Secretary General of the province, Mendien, also known as Moussa Soma, praised the successful outcome of the training efforts. He highlighted the anticipated benefits in terms of food security, job creation, and poverty alleviation. “In a difficult context, investing in the processing of NTFPs is a sure way to stimulate economic growth and strengthen household resilience,” Soma stated.

The president of the Tienu Hambli Union underscored the significance of imparting practical, income-generating skills to women. She urged authorities and partners to continue and intensify their support to transform the training from individual know-how into substantial economic opportunities for the community. She advocated for the establishment of appropriate financing, improved market access, and institutional support for structuring women’s cooperatives.

A representative of the participants expressed gratitude to the trainers, authorities, and technical partners for their continuous support. She highlighted the value of the skills acquired and reaffirmed the participants’ commitment to developing the NTFP sector as a source of wealth and hope.

The event concluded with a symbolic presentation of certificates and a visit to an exhibition of products processed by the participants, showcasing their acquired expertise and the diversity of local potential.
