Dano: The late Ferdinand Dabir©, designer of the national flag of Burkina Faso, has been posthumously elevated to the rank of Officer of the Order of the Stallion by the Burkinabe State.
According to Burkina Information Agency, retired journalist Ferdinand Dabir©, who passed away in Ouagadougou on Thursday, July 3, 2025, was honored in a ceremony held in Dano on Saturday, July 5. The High Commissioner of Ioba Province, Innocents Ouattara, led the decoration ceremony in Dabir©’s hometown.
The event was attended by former students, relatives, friends, provincial administrative authorities, and representatives from the Ministry of Communication. The State’s recognition highlights Dabir©’s contribution as the designer of the national flag during the revolution led by Captain Thomas Sankara.
Dabir© was a trained journalist and a trainer at the Professional Information Training Center, now known as the Institute of Information and Communication Sciences and Technology. He also served as the first regional communications director for the Southwest before retiring.
After retirement, Dabir© settled in Bagane in sector 3 of Dano to continue his activities. He had been ill for several months before passing away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, in Ouagadougou. He was laid to rest in his birthplace, Bagane, on Saturday, July 5, 2025. Dabir© is survived by his wife and four children who mourn his passing but take pride in his legacy.
