Information Message for U.S. Citizens: Nairobi (Kenya), Nairobi Road Closures Due to TICAD

Due to the Tokyo International Conference on African Development being held in Nairobi on August 27-28, 2016, all roads leading directly to the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) will be closed from Thursday August 25 midnight, with only accredited people and vehicles allowed in. Parliament and Taifa roads, City Hall Way and Wabera, Mama Ngina, and Standard streets, will be closed until 6pm on Monday August 29. Areas around the Hilton and Intercontinental hotels will be out of bounds for the public. Entry into the Central Business District (CBD) from Nyayo Stadium will be restricted to Moi Avenue via Haile Selassie Avenue, Uhuru Highway or Kenyatta Avenue via the GPO roundabout.

We strongly recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Nairobi enroll in the Department of State's Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. embassy or nearest U.S. consulate to contact you in an emergency. If you don't have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.

Regularly monitor the State Department's website, where you can find current Travel Warnings, including the Travel Warning for Kenya, Travel Alerts, and the Worldwide Caution. Read the Country Specific Information for Kenya. For additional information, refer to "Traveler's Checklist" on the State Department's website.
