IAEA Director General Visits Five African Countries To Support Health and Development


Monrovia: The IAEA Director General was in Africa last week, to reaffirm the IAEA’s commitment to advancing development goals through nuclear technologies, with a particular focus on cancer care. Rafael Mariano Grossi visited Ethiopia, Rwanda, Malawi, Kenya, and Liberia to engage with local leaders and make tangible contributions to their cancer strategies, as well as discussing other ways the IAEA can support development goals such as energy and food security.



According to EMM, the visit was aimed at strengthening partnerships between the IAEA and the African nations in addressing pressing health and developmental challenges. The discussions included strategies to enhance cancer treatment and diagnostics by leveraging nuclear technology, a critical component in improving healthcare infrastructure in these countries.



The visit also covered broader developmental issues, emphasizing the role of nuclear technology in achieving energy and food security. Grossi’s engagement with African leaders highlighted the IAEA’s role in facilitating sustainable development through technological innovation and collaboration.
