Hauts-Bassins Regional Bulletin Addresses Food Security Challenges

Bobo-dioulasso: The Regional Directorate of Agriculture, Animal Resources and Fisheries of Hauts-Bassins organized a validation workshop to address food and nutritional security in the region. The workshop, held on July 28, 2025, aimed to validate the regional analysis bulletin for the second quarter of the year, with support from the NGO Action Against Hunger (ACF).

According to Burkina Information Agency, the workshop took place under the supervision of the Governorate of the Hauts-Bassins region, represented by Mr. TRAOR‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬€š¬¦¡¬€š¬…¡¬¦¡¬€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬¦¡¬€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬¦¡¬¦¡¬€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬¦¡¬¦¡¬° Fousseni, a research officer. The bulletin, which covers the period from April to June 2025, provides updated information on the region’s food situation, aiming to enhance surveillance and better guide interventions by stakeholders on the ground.

The initiators of the bulletin highlight the heavy reliance of households in Burkina Faso, similar to other Sahelian countries, on agriculture and livestock for their livelihoods. These livelihoods face significant challenges from climate change, including erratic rainfall, recurring droughts, and flooding, all of which threaten agricultural and pastoral yields.

In response to these challenges, the NGO Action Against Hunger (ACF) provided both technical and financial support to the regional directorate, addressing the lack of reliable information on food security. Over the course of eight days, representatives from various technical departments, such as agriculture, livestock, health, social action, water, and forestry, engaged in data collection, processing, and analysis before participating in validation workshops at both technical and regional levels.

The Governor’s representative commended the quality of the work conducted by all parties involved in developing the bulletin. He expressed gratitude to the technical and financial partners, particularly ACF, for their continued support.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants officially validated the food and nutrition security analysis bulletin for the Hauts-Bassins region for the second quarter of the year. This document will now act as a crucial reference for strategic decision-making at the regional level.
