Abidjan: The day after the Burkinabe authorities officially denounced the death in circumstances deemed unclear of their compatriot Alain Christophe Traor©, alias Alino Faso, which occurred in detention in Abidjan, the Republic of C´te d’Ivoire sent its condolences to Burkina Faso on Tuesday, AIB learned from diplomatic sources.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Abidjan reaffirmed the statement of the Prosecutor of the Republic of C´te d’Ivoire, according to which Mr. Traor© allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself using a bed sheet, after an unsuccessful attempt to mutilate his veins.
While maintaining this version of events, the Ivorian authorities offered their condolences to Ouagadougou and pledged to communicate the full results of the ongoing investigation as soon as they are available, in a spirit of fraternity and transparency.
As a reminder, the Burkinabe government rejected, as of Monday, the suicide theory put forward by the Ivorian justice system. It also condemned the fact that the news of the death was made public three days after the events, via social media.
Burkina Faso demands full clarification on the circumstances of Alino Faso’s death, as well as the immediate repatriation of his remains in order to pay him national tributes.
An activist known for his commitment to social causes, Alino Faso had been detained in C´te d’Ivoire since January 2025 on unfounded accusations of espionage made by Abidjan, but categorically rejected by the Burkinabe authorities.
The announcement of his disappearance has sparked strong emotion and profound incomprehension among Burkinabe public opinion.
