Chairman of Liberia Telecommunications Authority Engages with ECOWAS Commission on Digital Reforms

Abuja: The Chairman of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority, Clarence Massaquoi, met with the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, to discuss reforms and development in Liberia's digital sector and to enhance regional cooperation in telecommunications. According to African Press Organization, the meeting provided an opportunity to address the harmonization of policies by 2026. The aim is to attract more investment in infrastructure, reduce communication service costs, and facilitate regional digital transformation. The discussions also covered harmonizing regulatory frameworks, developing digital infrastructure, and promoting a more integrated and resilient regional telecommunications market. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray emphasized the strategic role of regulators in implementing regional policies. He reiterated the ECOWAS Commission's commitment to supporting initiatives that improve access to telecommunications services for West African popula tions. He noted that the benefits of regional integration in infrastructure and telecommunications should be accessible to all ECOWAS Member States. Clarence Massaquoi expressed his commitment to strengthening collaboration with the ECOWAS Commission to promote consistent regulation suited to the regional market's realities. He also discussed with Dr. Omar Alieu Touray topics such as community roaming, the ECOWAS common currency, and agreements to facilitate the free movement of people and goods within the member states. Massaquoi thanked Dr. Omar Alieu Touray for his contributions to economic development and integration in West Africa. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray called for unity and solidarity among ECOWAS member states, stressing that integration depends on effective communication between West African states.
