Ouagadougou: The Burkinabe Football Federation (FBF) initiated an extensive tree planting campaign at its headquarters in Ouagadougou on Tuesday, following directives from the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor©.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the FBF’s efforts were led by FBF President Oumarou Sawadogo and included participation from members of the FBF Executive Committee, sports ambassador Charles Kabor©, representatives from the Burkinabe National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSB), club representatives, the National Union of Etalons Supporters, sports journalists, and various football stakeholders. The campaign involved planting hundreds of trees across the FBF’s 29-hectare area.
“This is in response to the Head of State’s words,” stated FBF President Oumarou Sawadogo. He emphasized the importance of the reforestation initiative not only for environmental purposes but also to meet FIFA’s criteria regarding reforestation. Sawadogo expressed the goal of regreening the area, stating that they have nearly 600 plants and plan to continue planting more as they occupy the space.
The tree planting effort focused on useful species, including date palms, kapok trees, shea trees, and mango trees. Sawadogo highlighted the intention to introduce additional varieties to diversify the plantation further. He assured that maintenance of the trees would be prioritized, acknowledging the substantial investment made in purchasing the plants.
Sawadogo also mentioned plans to relocate trees currently lining the access roads to other areas, with a promise of a transformed landscape in the coming years. He expressed optimism that in two or three years, the beauty of the newly planted trees would impress visitors and locals alike.
