Burkina National Gendarmerie Leads Sanitation Efforts at Nelson Mandela High School


Ouagadougou: As part of the 2nd edition of the National Days of Patriotic Commitment and Civic Participation, the National Gendarmerie undertook a substantial sanitation operation at the Nelson Mandela high school in Ouagadougou. The initiative aimed to instill values of patriotism and civic duty among students by setting an example through action.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the Chief of Staff of the Gendarmerie, Colonel Kouagri Natama, highlighted that the operation was designed to demonstrate that civic participation is an essential and commendable activity. He noted the positive transformation in the city’s cleanliness and emphasized that it has become a source of national pride.



Colonel Natama explained that the initiative seeks to reinforce the spirit of physical and civic engagement, aligning with a presidential initiative to make such activities a standard practice for all Burkinabe citizens. He also announced plans to rehabilitate the high school’s flagpole to encourage students to engage with national symbols, reinforcing their sense of identity and heritage.



“We want to set a good example for these young people, because children imitate what we do. We want to instill in them the spirit of patriotism and citizenship,” he added. The Gendarmerie is committed to continuing these civic actions wherever needed, setting an example and supporting relevant services.



Adama Zante, the principal of Nelson Mandela High School, expressed his appreciation for the initiative, noting its contribution to creating a healthy and enjoyable learning environment. He emphasized the Gendarmerie’s role as a partner in maintaining discipline and fostering a sense of pride among students.



The cleaning efforts are set to continue on Monday, October 13, 2025, involving students and educational staff. The 2nd edition of the National Days of Patriotic Commitment and Citizen Participation runs from October 2 to 16, 2025, nationwide.
