Burkina/Boulgou: 50 Tons of Rice Donated to Internally Displaced People in Sawenga


Ouagadougou: The High Commissioner of Boulgou Province, Domegbeguiere Constantin Dabire, presided over the official ceremony in Tenkodogo for the handover of 50 tons of rice to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the village of Sawenga, in the commune of Bittou. This gesture was in response to a plea from the Association Beogneere pour le Developpement de Sawenga (ABNDS).



According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony took place at the Boulgou High Commission, attended by administrative and customary authorities and development partners. Officially established in 2024, the Beogneere Association for the Development of Sawenga works to improve the living conditions of its citizens affected by the security crisis. Its president, Mr. Bouri Mathieu Tandako, welcomed the gesture of BMC Soleil Resources, emphasizing that this donation will help alleviate the difficulties faced by the displaced people of Sawenga. He expressed the association’s gratitude to the mining company, provincial authorities, and all partners for their ongoing support.



The association is involved in several areas of local development, including youth and women’s entrepreneurship, health promotion, and socio-professional integration. The director of community relations at BMC Soleil Resources reiterated the company’s commitment to its social responsibility policy. He stated that the management agreed to respond favorably to the association’s request, donating rice worth 20 million CFA francs to support the government’s action and provide assistance to those in distress.



He also conveyed the gratitude of CEO El Hadj Inoussa Kanazoe and General Manager Poko Tapsoba to the provincial and municipal authorities for their support. He expressed the hope for peace to return, allowing populations to go back to their communities and for the company to resume normal operations at the Ouare site.



The High Commissioner of Boulgou, Domegbeguiere Constantin Dabire, praised this joint action by BMC Soleil Resources and the Beogneere Association for the Development of Sawenga as an example of collaboration in service of displaced populations. He assured the availability of humanitarian action services to support the reception, storage, and distribution of food to beneficiaries. This operation is part of the national dynamic of supporting internally displaced persons and promoting social cohesion in the Nakambe region.
