Baz¨ga Reforestation Initiative Sees Planting of 300 Trees by ULB-Coop©ration


Baz¨ga: The NGO ULB-Coop©ration/Burkina, in collaboration with local communities, organized a reforestation day in the commune of Doulougou, specifically in the village of B©legr© along the Kombissiri-Doulougou route. A total of 300 Khaya senegalensis plants were placed with protective grids over a stretch of nearly 3 kilometers, aiming to restore the area’s vegetation cover through row planting.



According to Burkina Information Agency, Fr©d©ric Souband©, Project Manager in Agroecology and Agroforestry at ULB-Coop©ration, mentioned that this activity aligns with the objectives of the Burkina Faso Ministry of the Environment, which promotes the creation of row plantings of at least 2 km in every municipality. The event saw participation from several stakeholders, including the Baz¨ga Provincial Directorate of Water and Forests, led by Director Sanata Domo, and the Secretary General of the Doulougou commune, representing the President of the Special Delegation. Both expressed appreciation for the NGO’s dedication and encouraged locals to care for the young plants.



Jos©fa Zagu©-Som©, Country Coordinator of ULB-Coop©ration Burkina, emphasized the importance of environmental protection in the NGO’s efforts and called for collective responsibility to ensure the survival of the newly planted trees. Additionally, 50 more trees, comprising cailcedrats, baobabs, and flamboyants, will be planted within the Doulougou central public primary school’s grounds, enhancing the initiative’s educational and ecological impact.



This initiative is part of the ‘Sustainable Food Systems’ program activities, funded by the Belgian Development Cooperation for the period 2022-2026.
