Kaya: The final of the 6th edition of the Maracana football tournament hosted by Radio Notre-Dame de Kaya concluded with Avenir FC securing a victory over Massage FC in a penalty shootout. The match, held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, ended in a 0-0 draw during regulation time before Avenir FC triumphed 3-2 in the penalties.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the match was played under challenging weather conditions on the Notre-Dame school pitch in Kaya. Avenir FC’s win marks their third victory in this competition, having previously won in 2021 and 2024. The team was awarded 100,000 CFA francs, jerseys, three balls, and medals for their triumph. Massage FC, as the runner-up, received 70,000 CFA francs, jerseys, two balls, and medals.
Father Alexis Kouka Ou©draogo, director of Radio Notre-Dame de Kaya, along with Alphonse Kafando, president of the organizing committee, commended the participants’ sportsmanship. Father Kouka highlighted the tournament’s role in promoting peace and solidarity amid a challenging security and humanitarian context.
This year’s edition, which commenced on July 1, 2025, featured 24 teams from various sectors of Kaya. Notably, Video Assistance Refereeing (VAR) was introduced during the semi-final and final matches. The final was co-sponsored by notable figures including Moussa Dahani, president of the executive committee of the SONABEL Sports Association, and Father Adelphe Rouamba, diocesan executive secretary of OCADES-Caritas of Kaya.
The event was attended by prominent individuals such as Moussa Sawadogo, deputy in the Transitional Legislative Assembly, Tiraogo Sougrinoma Ibrahim Guigma, director of communication and press relations for the Presidency of Faso, Ousmane Zamtako, president of the Kuils© regional football league, and Hamado Compaor©, known as Tagui, president of the regional supporters’ union of the Kuils© Stallions.
