Abidjan: The Fund for Export Development in Africa (FEDA), the equity investment arm of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), has announced the expansion of its membership. The Republic of Senegal and the Republic of Liberia have acceded to the FEDA Establishment Agreement, while the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Republic of Angola have ratified the Agreement. According to African Press Organization, these developments mark a significant step in strengthening FEDA's growing membership and mandate across the continent. The accession of Senegal and Liberia raises FEDA's membership to twenty-four countries, and the ratification by Zimbabwe and Angola provides a robust foundation for FEDA to support strategic investments in industrial and critical mineral processing opportunities. These opportunities include sectors such as logistics, agro-processing, energy, manufacturing, financial services, and strategic mineral processing. FEDAs expanding membership enhances the scope of its interventions and its cap acity to deploy long-term domestic capital for transformative regional investments. The Fund offers equity, quasi-equity, and other forms of capital to projects that advance economic diversification, regional integration, and export development. As FEDA continues to grow, it aims to work closely with member states to identify investment opportunities that combine commercial viability with development impact. This involves mobilizing additional capital alongside FEDA's resources and partnering with public and private investors to increase investment for African businesses and strategic projects. Dr. George Elombi, President and Chairman of both the Board of Directors of Afreximbank and FEDA, stated that the membership milestones reflect the growing confidence of African governments in institutions they control. He emphasized the importance of building strong institutions capable of mobilizing African capital for development. Emmanuel Assiak, CEO of FEDA, highlighted the compelling investment opportunities in Senegal, Liberia, Angola, and Zimbabwe, and expressed excitement about translating this expanded footprint into investments that strengthen value chains and support competitive African businesses. Over the past five years, FEDA has enhanced its investment capacity significantly, with Afreximbank's commitment increasing from US$100 million to US$1.3 billion, allowing the Fund to broaden its investment activities across more regions and sectors.
