Nouakchott: Liberia's Ambassador accredited to the Republic of Senegal, Mr. Ali Sylla, paid a courtesy call on Dr. Mohamed Salem Merzoug, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Mauritania. During their meeting, Ambassador Sylla conveyed greetings from President Joseph N. Boakai Sr. and Liberia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Madame Sara Beysolow Nyanti, to the government and people of Mauritania. According to African Press Organization, Ambassador Sylla emphasized the importance of the longstanding relationship between the two countries, recalling Liberia's past humanitarian assistance to Mauritania during the late 1950s. He expressed optimism for continued cooperation in areas of mutual interest and stressed the need to strengthen ties to address global challenges. In response, Dr. Merzoug congratulated Ambassador Sylla on his new role and acknowledged Liberia's contributions to the decolonization and unification efforts on the African continent. During the meeting, Ambassador Syll a sought Mauritania's backing for Liberia's bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. Dr. Merzoug assured that he would relay Liberia's request to President Mohammed Ould Cheick Mohammed Ahmed Ould Ghazouani. The meeting was attended by Mr. Richard Garnette, Commercial Attaché at the Liberian Embassy in Dakar.
