Evergreen Musical Coy begins construction of musical museum in Lagos

The Evergreen Musical Company has begun the construction of a musical museum in Ikeja, Lagos. Its Managing Director, Bimbo Esho, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, said the museum upon completion would be called 'Evergreen Music Heritage Foundation'. Esho said that the museum would help to upscale the promotion of music of yesteryears with sound moral values. She said the idea was to also bequeath to future generations a strong philosophy on music while appreciating the sheer artistic genius of Nigeria's renowned musical talents, many of whom had been forgotten. According to her, the project was birthed following the collaboration between Chief Femi Esho, Founder of Evergreen Musical Company and Dr Daniel Olukoya, Founder of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry. She said the edifice would accommodate a music museum, music library, gallery showcasing head burst of artistes, display of over 1,000 pictures of Nigerian musicians from 1914 till date. She explained that there would also be relics of the musicians' costumes, old musical instruments, an event centre for music concerts, cinema theatre, recording studio and so much more. According to her, Olukoya, an ardent lover of good music had been of huge financial support to the project. She noted that the founder of Evergreen Musical Company would remain the chairman of the foundation while Olukoya had been selected as the Patron. 'The project is a massive one, it is a historic landmark project that will stand the test of time and outlive all of us. 'Dr Olukoya has been more than supportive to our cause. He has been magnanimous and we remain eternally grateful to him for his love and support for this dream. But there's still plenty of work to be done. 'This magnificent edifice is situated at Oyedele Ogunniyi street, Anthony Village, Ikeja, Lagos. We are still calling on all music enthusiasts, lovers of Nigerian music all over the world to come support this dream. 'It will be a contribution to a legacy that will be sustained for generations t o come, all of the enduring morals and intrinsic values that our music of yesteryears taught us, all of which is lacking today. 'The edifice is a place the youth can come to enjoy quality music and research into the past musical history of some of Nigeria's most accomplished musicians of the 50s, the 60s down to the 90s,' she said. Esho said that the construction should be completed before the end of the year. Source: News Agency of Nigeria

Presidency, foundation partner Leadway Assurance to support journalists

The Presidency and Media Foundation, an NGO, say they are partnering Leadway Assurance to support journalists facing health and financial challenges. A statement issued by the president of the foundation, Mr Femi Oyewale, on Monday in Abuja said that Media Foundation was the humanitarian arm of the National Association of Social and Resourceful Editors (NASRE). 'Media work is hazardous. We take the highest form of risks. ' We are on the road even in the middle of the night, ensuring that governments and institutions' actions are anchored in truth for the overall benefit of citizens and taxpayers. 'The risks we embrace daily take a toll on our health and when most of us are either deceased or down with ailments, nobody cares for us. 'These are part of the reasons we set up this foundation, to provide hope for colleagues in the face of hopelessness,' he said. Oyewale said the support extended to the beneficiaries was small given the large number of journalists on the foundation's list who had truly pathet ic cases and needed support. 'We are not going to rest on our oars, we have a long list of journalists and families of late journalists who need help. ' Some of the cases are really pathetic and we are committed to this noble cause. This is just the first phase,' Oyewale said. He said the move by NASRE Media Foundation, Leadway Assurance, and Ms Moremi Ojudu of the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagements, South West, was to wipe away tears from the eyes of victims. Oyewale said Leadway Assurance, the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagements and the foundation provided cash and grains to selected beneficiaries in the first phase. He said that the four recipients in the first phase of the initiative included Mr Omodele Adigun, a former Deputy Business Editor at The Sun Newspapers and Mrs Esther Peter Thomas, wife of the late renowned entertainment editor and publicist at former Mo'Hits Records. Others, Oyewale said, were Mrs Qudus Adewole, widow of the late Qudus Adewole, publisher of Ebony Media and the family of late Foluso Samuel who worked with Encomium Magazine. He assured the recipients of continued support within the limit of available resources. The NASRE president called on public as well as private institutions and individuals to partner with the organisation in assisting journalists facing challenges. Source: News Agency of Nigeria

Navy has attained highest state of operational readiness – Chief

The Chief of Policy and Plans, Nigerian Navy, Rear Adm. Joseph Akpan, says the Navy has attained the highest state of operational readiness in the discharge of its constitutional roles. Akpan said this while briefing newsmen on the forthcoming 68th Anniversary Celebrations 2024 of the Nigeria Navy (NN) tagged, 'Navy Week' on Monday in Abuja. He said the Navy under the current Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla, had achieved huge success in the fight against Crude Oil Theft through Operation Delta Sanity. According to him, nine months after re-launching the operation, it has led to the arrest of various suspects and vessels involved in crude oil theft. 'Some of these vessels include MT Kali, MT Sweet Harbour Spirit, MT Saisnil, MV Tokito, MT Vinillaris and MT Sweet Miri, among others. 'This has impacted positively on Nigeria's crude oil production. 'For instance, OPEC's Records for April stated that Nigeria's crude oil exports rose to 1.28 million bpd from 1.23 million bpd in March. 'This i s in line with the president's directive to eradicate crude oil theft in order to ramp up Nigeria's oil production and exports,' he said. Akpan said the Navy had in line with its Total Spectrum Maritime Strategy, continued to support land operations in all the geo-political zones of the country. He added that NN had also provided all year-round situation awareness of Nigeria's maritime domain, extending to the limits of the Exclusive Economic Zone. This, he said, was through its Maritime Domain Awareness Facilities, which enabled early detection and swift response to incidences within the maritime environment. According to him, this has ensured that Nigeria maintains its zero piracy status in the International Maritime Bureau piracy rating. In terms of fleet renewal, Akpan said the NN had taken delivery of various platforms such as offshore survey vessel, two 32m FPBs, and two Helicopters, adding that two 76m OPVs were expected from Turkey later in the year. He highlighted the activities lined up for th e event to include the flag-off of the Regional Maritime (REMEX) and International Maritime Conference to be graced by President Bola Tinubu. According to him, the REMEX, which is scheduled to hold from May 30 to June 1, is an international maritime sea exercise involving navies from Africa, Europe, Asia, North and South America. 'The NN will contribute 18 platforms comprising capital ships, boats and helicopters. 'Some of the foreign naval ships participating include, Brazilian Navy Ship APA, Cameroonian Navy Ship Dipikar, Peoples Liberation Army Navy Ship XU Chang, French Navy Ship OSV Commandant Birot, Ghana Navy Ship Chemle, United States Ship Hershel Woody Williams. 'The conference is aimed at catalysing effective cooperation on maritime security across Africa as a key driver for unlocking the continent's immense Blue Economy potential in line with the vision of the 2050 African Integrated Maritime Strategy (AIMS). It has as its theme: 'Promoting the Blue Economy in Africa through International Coop eration on Maritime Security' and delegations from about 21 African countries, 17 non-African countries and 13 International/regional organisations. 'The series of activities marking the Navy Week Celebration will be rounded off on June 1, with the inauguration of the International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMION). Also there will be Ceremonial Sunset/Reunion Dinner at NNS Quorra Apapa and Naval Dockyard Limited Victoria Island respectively,' he added. Source: News Agency of Nigeria

Abuja Light Rail ready for commercial operations – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, says the Abuja Light Rail is ready for commercial operations. Wike, who stated this after he inspected the project, in Abuja on Monday, added that 15 million dollars, translating to more than N10 billion was expended on the rehabilitation project. He assured FCT residents that the light rail, also known as the Abuja Metro Line, would be inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu for commercial operations on May 27. 'Thank God Almighty that we are good to go. We are ready and you can see the facilities have been installed. 'We are happy; very very happy, and we thank God the promise President Tinubu made has been kept. He said that Tinubu had promised to deliver the metro line to Nigerians within one year in office, adding that as a foot soldier, he has no excuse but to ensure that the promise became a reality. He said that the operationalisation of the metro line was a testimony of the reality of Tinubu's 'Renewed Hope' agenda. The minister said that the project was delivered because of the overwhelming support of President Tinubu. 'We are doing well because Mr President has given us every necessary support. Assuming we are not getting the support from him, this would not have been a reality today,' he said. He, however, identified facilities that were omitted during the design of the project, particular air conditioning in the passengers waiting room and elevator. He said: 'We are happy with the project. It is just that we identify one or two things that were omitted during the design. 'But we believe that during the full operations of the train, some of the things will be taken into consideration. 'Particularly, I believe that as a standard metro line, where the passengers will be waiting before boarding the trains, there should be air conditioners. 'I also thought that some of the stations should have had an elevator for those who are very old and those who may not have the strength to walk or climb the staircase. 'Apart from that, I t hink we are happy with the work that has been done and we believe Nigerians will be happy, particularly the residents of FCT.' He pointed out that the absence of the air conditioning and the elevator would not prevent the full operation of the metro line but make the passengers more comfortable. The minister also said that access roads have also been constructed to link communities to the train stations. According to him, without the access roads to the train station, there will be no need for the metro line, otherwise, how will the people from the various communities access the stations? NAN reports that the project was originally designed to find concrete solution to transportation challenges - heavy traffic and hold-up in the FCT and its environs. Source: News Agency of Nigeria

Minister tasks FCTA workers on intellectual development for improved productivity

The Minister of State, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr Mariya Mamoud, has advised workers in FCT Administration to invest in intellectual development for improved productivity. The minister gave the advice in Abuja on Monday, at the maiden edition of the FCTA' maiden Book Exhibition, organised by the Department of Reform Coordination and Service Improvement (RCandSI). Mahmoud, who was represented by Hajiya Asma'u Mukhtar, Permanent Secretary, Social Development Secretariat, FCTA, said that the move would translate to sustainable growth and development of the territory. The minister identifying books as windows to the world, offering insights, knowledge, and perspectives that transcend boundaries and time, stressed the importance of continuous learning for self-development. She called on the FCTA workers to equip themselves with the necessary tools and knowledge to enable them navigate complex challenges. This, she said, would enhance FCA's commitment to providing quality services to the residents of the territory. 'This book exhibition serves as a testament to our commitment to fostering a culture of learning and growth within our administrative framework. 'It is a reflection of our belief that investing in the intellectual development of our staff is not just a noble endeavour, but a strategic one. 'The diverse array of books on display covers a wide spectrum of subjects, ranging from public administration and governance to urban planning, sustainability, economics, and beyond. 'Each volume holds within its pages the potential to inspire, educate, and empower us to become better leaders, decision-makers, and agents of positive change,' she said. In his remarks, the Head of Civil Service, FCTA, Dr Udo Attang, said that books have always been a cornerstone of knowledge and wisdom. Attang, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Women Affairs Secretariat, FCTA, Mr Adetoyi Kolawale, argued that reading books would help in shaping and reshaping workers' minds and skills, and impact on their pro ductivity. The head of service said that the theme, 'Enhancing Intellectual Capacity for Effective Service Delivery', underscores the critical link between knowledge and performance. 'As public servants, educators, and community leaders, we understand that the quality of our service delivery is directly proportional to the depth of our understanding and the breadth of our skills. 'Intellectual capacity is not merely about acquiring information; it is about nurturing the ability to think critically, solve problems creatively, and make informed decisions that benefit our communities,' he said. He thanked the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and Mahmoud for their tireless support towards building a productive workforce for the FCT. Earlier, Dr Jumai Ahmadu, the acting Director, Reform Coordination and Service Improvements, explained that the exhibition was organised to promote professionalism among workers. Ahmadu said that the effort was in line with the 6th Pillar of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Imple mentation Plan 2021-2025. According to her, investing in the intellectual development of workers will not only enrich the workers, but also enhance their value as individuals and impact FCTA in the long run. 'By embracing life-long learning, we equip ourselves with the tools necessary to navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities that lie ahead,' she said. Source: News Agency of Nigeria
