The government commitment is to build 2,400 affordable hurricane-resilient smart homes in four years that will be built in four phases. Each phase will construct 600 homes, with features for each new homeowner to enjoy, including a water tank and a rooftop water heater in each home.

Growth in the healthcare sector

Honourable Dr. Drew added that there are healthcare initiatives to provide essential healthcare to disadvantaged children through paying for emergency overseas medical care. This initiative saved over thirty sick children in the twin federation.

The above accomplishments were achieved by critical steps to preserve the economy and tourism sector. St Kitts and Nevis’ economy ricocheted in the last year with significant growth in the agriculture, financial services, and tourism sectors. As well as advancing the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programme, with new regulations to maintain competitiveness in the Caribbean and in the rest of the world.

The government placed emphasis on job creation and permanent employment opportunities for the country’s people, these subsequently boost the economy and significantly improve the livelihood of citizens.

The Government of St Kitts and Nevis’ vision is to evolve the country into a Sustainable Island State by focusing its governance on integrity, transparency, and accountability. Their commitment is to build a stronger country and empower its citizens.

Users elated as Gov’t authorizes Yango services in Cameroon

The government has given authorization for the ride-hailing network operated by Russian multinational technology corporation Yandex, Yango, to operate in Cameroon.

The move made on August 16, 2023, by the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe, has been widely welcomed by Cameroonians.

“I was happy when I heard the news. I have been a victim of so many attacks in public taxis especially at night because of the nature of my job. But since I started using Yango, I have felt so safe. Their vehicles are very safe and comfortable and just for you alone, you do not have to share with someone. Though expensive, but very reliable. I think this is a good move by the government to ensure the safety of Cameroonians,” a user stated.

“At least now, one can be able to relax. I always send a command to Yango wherever I am and at any time they will let me know how long it will take them to arrive at my location. They are very professional, have very clean cars, and professional drivers. I prefer to pay much on the transportation with them that go for public transportation where I will be scared throughout my ride,” another user told CNA.

Yango on its part expressed gratitude and promised to bring out the best technological solutions and financial investments to Cameroon.

“Yango welcomes the MINT decision and thanks the Ministry for their thorough and transparent approach. As an international digital platform operating across 20+ countries, we are happy to be able to resume bringing the best technological solutions and financial investments to Cameroon, which we consider to be one of our key African markets,” Clovis Pilla, Country manager for Cameroon at Yango said

He further stated; “This authorization enables our partners, Cameroonian transport companies, to continue digitizing their operations, creating jobs and income opportunities by bringing simple, fast, secure, and affordable innovative transportation solutions to many Cameroonians who have been using the Yango app for getting their rides since 2021,”

The license is valid for one year and can be renewed, CNA learned.

Yango has been in hot trouble since its inception in 2021 in the major cities of Yaounde and Douala, following complaints from road transport trade unions that it was operating clandestinely and unfairly competing with regular cab service providers. They were later suspended in February 2023, for alleged noncompliance

FHA to construct golden jubilee estates in 6 geo-political zones

The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) said on Wednesday that plans have been concluded to construct Golden Jubilee Estates across the six-geo political zones of the country.

The Managing Director, FHA, Sen. Gbenga Ashafa, said this at the unveiling of the logo for the commemoration of the authority’s 50 years anniversary.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the celebration is “The Future of Housing in Nigeria, Celebrating 50 Years of FHA and its Impact on the Housing Sector”.

Ashafa said that the groundbreaking of the golden jubilee estate was done recently at the Mbora District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He said that the housing project would be realized through a Public Private Partnership (PPP), adding that many companies have lined up to be part of the project.

According to him, the project is going to be a 24 months project, and FHA will soon start inviting interested bidders who will be part of the construction.

“It will be a 20, 000 unit housing estate project that will enable Nigerians to own their own houses through “rent to own approach”.

“The golden jubilee estate as the name implies will be permanent like that of Festac town in Lagos.

“FHA will continue to maintain consistent delivery of quality houses,” he stressed.

Ashafa stated that the purpose of the celebration was to recognise and celebrate those who have been part of the success story of the authority over the years.

He also said that FHA was also celebrating the impact it had made in providing quality and affordable housing to Nigerians.

The authority recently performed a groundbreaking ceremony of 7000 housing units in Mbora District of the FCT, under a PPP arrangement with Nuga Best Regis International.
